Great Books

If you are interested in history and religion, then collect coins Bible could be a great hobby and surprisingly economical to consider. If you are unfamiliar with the collection of coins, you might be surprised to know that you can buy a widows mite, as mentioned in the Christian Bible price about the same as a CD or DVD.

Widows mites are very small bronze coins, usually green or brown in appearance with an anchor on one side and lightning as a wheel with spokes in the other, along with the Hebrew inscription "Yehonatan the king '. They were made by the cruel king of Judea, Alexander Janco approximately 2100 years ago, in such large quantities that many survive to this day.

Our knowledge of these and many other Biblical coins has developed time, and gradually the study of these coins to the publication of books dealing specifically with the currencies of the Bible. One of the first and remains one of the best, though a bit outdated and inaccurate in some places is as follows:

The Jewish history of currency and money in the Old and New Testaments, Frederick W Madden (1864)

Contents of this a lot of drawings and historical information as of each coin. The originals are expensive ($ 200 +), but a reprint Pegasus Publishing, dated 1967, is available for about $ 20 and is highly recommended.

How far, two names stand out in terms of popular books on the Bible Coins, Ya'akov Meshorer and David Hendin

The Bible Guide Currencies 4th Edition, David Hendin, 2001 at approximately $ 90 is the standard by default, and you only buy one book on the subject, render it. It is a well presented, richly illustrated catalog of just over 550 coins, all with a unique reference number and widely quoted.

Yaacov Meshorer wrote many books and articles on the subject of the currencies of the Bible, the last for before his death to become a winning book is:

A treasury of Jewish coins, 2001 approximately $ 90

These two excellent books are very different in style and format, but richly illustrate the life and the money that was used in biblical times.

There are many other books on the subject, often selling the full range of $ 20, by people like Rev. Edgar Rogers, Florence Aiken Banks, Kenneth Jacob, and RS Yeoman. While these are worthwhile, and all have value, they do not represent rounded catalogs of the previous books.

There many new books also promised to look for an updated book by David Hendin, and a reissue of Richard Plant, tentatively titled 'Journey through the Bible numismatics'.
